Feeling lost?

February 14, 2021

How often we seem so put together, so “I don`t know how he/she does it” only to lay at night in bed, wondering “Where am I really going?”

Expectations from friends, family and plain external pressure on what seems acceptable or successful in life, career and parenthood can take us very far down a road, full of people who don`t know where they are going. We have our to-do lists, our plans and feel very smug about how all is going according the plan.

At the same time, somehow we are stressed, frustrated, restless and we don`t know why, because life is supposedly good.

There are times when someone asks us a simple, powerful question and we freeze:

Where are you going?

Where do you want to make a difference?

Are you the best version of yourself?

Are you genuinely happy?

And the list can continue. It is easy to go into defense mode or put on the overly( suspiciously) cheerful smile and say it is all going tremendously well, knowing somewhere inside something rebels. We don`t know what it is, so we Shhhh it and move on to the next to-do list.

I will be happy when…

I will relax when…

I will do what I really want to do when…

These are poisonous sentences that take away joy from our lives which we can have now. I sat down and wrote in my diary answers to the above questions,  but even in my own journal it is hard to be 100% objectively honest at first. We are so used to playing roles, wearing masks that it takes a while to really challenge ourselves, remove the superficial answers and thinking and find out what we truly want from life and how happy are we with the current version of ourselves.

Having a coach in your corner, just like an athlete or an executive, can speed up the process with key questions ( note, it is not advice)  – peeling away the masks, the layers of socially acceptable answers and challenging us to really take a deep look inside and see whether we have accepted “this is it” scenario.

Making up excuses is something we are all world champions at…but here is the counterintuitive truth, once we accept that we are in charge 100% regardless of our situation, is when we feel this surge of almost unhuman power. We are in control of our life, we can have experiments, mask challenges as games and move towards the best version of ourselves and living the life we want.

First things first, take a deep breath and try to answer the above questions as truthfully as you can….Did you find the source you were trying to Shhhhh…Let me know what happened.

The biggest teachers in my life

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" I asked my 5-year old twin girls, hoping for some profession that turns true in 30 years and I can point them to that moment. What came next was much better: Daughter 1: "I want to be a bear when I grow up. " Alright then, no...
